What I'm keen to see is how the service fares and fits into my day to day workflow as I move around and have to deal with spotty or non-existent internet connections.Īt $70 per year, or just under $6 per month this is a no brainer. This is useful when you're on a shoddy internet connection and don't want to waste time or spend money needlessly uploading data that's already been backed up. It does so intelligently, recognizing when I plug in different drives to the same port. Backblaze works wonderfully at storing all of my drives. If I was at home with a stable internet connection at all times this review would be done. It runs in the background at all times and has somehow managed to backup a few hundred gigabytes of data without me noticing. The program is incredibly simple there are just enough options to be useful without being overwhelming. So far in my 3 months of using the service I've found it to be awesome. Backblaze simplifies the whole thing for me so I can just focus on doing my thing. But when traveling, it's not practical or economical to bring drives with you. It's useful for when there's simply no internet access. I do have a spacious USB key that I have running with Bvckup.

It doesn't make sense to spend hundreds for external SSD drives when I can spend $70 for unlimited storage with Backblaze. With ballooning format demands, everything from 96khz audio to 4K and even 8K video, the need to backup your content comes with a unique set of challenges. In my case, I have a local USB key for storing my programming work which is light on data. Your particular situation will vary, but really I think if the next 9 months hold out as well as the first 3 have, Backblaze will work for anyone.

Is Backblaze The One?įor the next year I'll be testing Backblaze in my particular use case as a traveling media professional. The holy grail is a set it and forget it solution that is always on and does what you need and expect - backs up your entire system intelligently in the backround, at all times. The truth is, it doesn't need to be that difficult. The myriad solutions and their features can differ so much that I think most of us just bury our heads in the sand, cross our fingers, and hope for the best. Anyone that has lost their work can recall that sting when a drive dies and your precious work, memories, or creativity disappear. Tl:dr - Backblaze's unlimited online backup solution is the absolute best set it, forget it whether you're at home or traveling as a media / content pro.
